President & CEO
As someone who has been working in the sports world for more than a quarter-century, you would expect that David J. Chavez would have a rather extensive and eclectic collection of sports caps in his home. But what you might not anticipate is just how many of these hats he actually wears when he goes to work as President &CEO of Colorado Springs, CO-based Pro Sports MVP Entertainment & Promotions.
In this capacity with Pro Sports MVP Entertainment & Promotions, one of America’s leading full service marketing firms that creates and implements hundreds of proprietary, sports-themed promotions and events each year, Chavez not only manages the day-to-day operations of the business, office and staff, but also is responsible for such areas as celebrity acquisition, account services, sales and business development.
Chavez, who is bi-lingual (English and Spanish), trained extremely well and long for this prestigious position, which he assumed in October 1998 when the doors of Pro Sports MVP Entertainment & Promotions first opened. He earned a BS degree in Public Administration from the University of Arizona in 1982, first entering the sports field in 1976 when he began a 15-year stint in minor league baseball, serving as everything from equipment manager to traveling secretary. In 1990, the experiences, knowledge, skills, areas of expertise and contacts he acquired along the way helped him secure the position of Director of Player &Corporate Relations with International Sports Marketing (ISM), a Pittsburgh, PA-headquartered firm boasting strong alliances with both the Major League Baseball and National Football League Alumni Associations.
In his role with ISM, which lasted until he left to help launch Pro Sports MVP Entertainment & Promotions nine years ago, Chavez helped develop, organize and manage dozens of successful marketing programs and campaigns that involved hundreds of retired sports figures interacting with corporations, associations, fans and consumers in mutually-beneficial projects.
So what is Chavez’s business philosophy that has helped him rise to the very top of his highly-competitive profession? “Of foremost importance in our industry is Client Service,” Chavez asserts. “Never promise more than you can deliver – and always deliver more than you promise. Furthermore, as in any business, prompt follow-up is key, and you can never be too thorough in keeping in touch with your clients, both corporate and celebrities.”
On the personal side, Chavez and his wife, Denise, live in Colorado Springs and have four sons: David, Jr. (age 23), Joey (21), Matthew (19) and Jack (11) as well as four daughters Mia Christina (16), twin girls Hope and Faith (13), and Sabrina (7). He also finds time to wear some more of the hats from his collection to assist non-profit organizations such as the Dream Foundation, Autism Education Action Group and the American Red Cross. A native of Tucson, AZ, who now resides in Colorado Springs, Chavez has increased gross sales at Pro Sports MVP Entertainment & Promotions on a yearly basis, and has renewed more than 90% of all accounts.
How? The answer is simple and obvious: There must be some magic in all those hats.
Brian Lee joined Pro Sports MVP Entertainment & Promotions in 2002 as the firm’s Director. Brian’s responsibilities include the development and execution of all celebrity appearances, tours and international programs. He maintains strong relationships with all celebrity clientele and is a key asset in profiling as well as securing celebrities for promotions and special events. Brian is also integrally involved in the day-to-day operations of Pro Sports MVP Entertainment & Promotions.
Brian has been involved in the sports marketing industry for over 10 years and got his start with International Sports (ISM) when working closely with Pro Sports MVP Entertainment & Promotions president, David Chavez in the late 1990’s. Brian originally hails from Pittsburgh, PA and graduated from the University of Dayton in 1994.
Corporate Communications Director
Nicole St.Pierre joined Pro Sports MVP Entertainment & Promotions in 2003. Her primary roles with the firm involve the service of existing accounts as well as the development and management of corporate projects and goodwill military tours and programs. She graduated from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst with honors in 2002 and holds a B.B.A. in Marketing. She has worked in non-profit marketing, pharmaceutical sales, and also spent 1 year in South Korea teaching English to Korean children.
Throughout Nicole’s nearly 15 years with Pro Sports MVP Entertainment & Promotions, she has specialized in events, tours and hospitality programs featuring professional athletes, celebrities, entertainers, musicians and speakers. She has an established background in all stages of planning and managing promotions, special events and celebrity tours. She has garnered regional and national media coverage in a successful effort to bolster awareness and increase event attendance for corporate, retail and military clients. In 2009, Nicole moved from Colorado to her native Boston and launched Pro Sports MVP Entertainment & Promotions east coast office.
Nicole is an avid sports fan and is loyal to her hometown teams of New England. She and her husband Wilson have two son’s, Emmett and Truman.
Sarah Kellermann is our Accountant and the founder and CEO of Kellermann Consulting, LLC, which has been in business for over 2 years. She oversees the training of all Accounting personnel and likewise supervises and manages all of the business finances performing multiple tasks of running a successful company. Sarah has over 15 years of experience in many various industries. Sarah also owned and operated a successful Property management / Accounting company in Washington State for 4 years. After living in WA state, she relocated back to Colorado Springs to begin her journey with Kellermann Consulting, LLC and provides any and all Business Accounting services. Education and experience in this field has given her the opportunity to successfully run multiple businesses in the Colorado Springs region. Carol Brown joined Pro Sports MVP Entertainment & Promotions in 2008 as an Executive Assistant. In addition to customer service, Carol’s duties include composing client agreements, managing accounts receivable and payable, arranging travel for celebrity appearances, corresponding with clients and celebrities regarding event details, and general administrative duties.
Carol has been involved in the sports industry for the past 15 years serving as the Executive Assistant to the Director of U.S. Figure Skating, a National Governing Body of the Olympic Committee. At Figure Skating she served as liaison to the Executive Committee, Board of Directors, Nominating Committee and Hospitality Committee. She dealt directly with agents, professional athletes, network officials, consultants, and the USOC and ISU.
Brown attended Seton Hall University in South Orange, NJ and Berkeley Secretarial School in Manhattan, NYC. She lives in Colorado Springs with her husband, Richard, who is a retired Air Force Lt. Colonel. She has two children, Jim and Lisa and one grandchild, Cody Smith, a goalie for the Pikes Peak Miners AAA hockey.
Jayne is a public relations professional with six years’ experience managing and implementing sound public relations strategies in both public and private sector agencies. She has served in various capacities in Kenya including heading the Corporate Communications department of the Kenya Leather Development Council, an agency mandated to oversee the leather sector in Kenya. Her experience in managing events at local and international platforms prepared her for her present role at Pro Sports MVP where she has served since May 2017. Her duties include managing operations and logistics for all of Pro Sports MVP’s events, projects and international tours, profiling talent & celebrities for events, conducting market research, and consulting for Pro Sports MVP Entertainment & Promotions representation division. Jayne is a graduate of the University of Nairobi (Kenya) with a Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism and Media Studies (Public Relations.) She is fluent in both English and Swahili languages. Jayne spends her free time either traveling with her husband, Randy, watching movies, sometimes reading or writing on her blog. In addition, she is a great supporter of the Denver Broncos and holds that Peyton Manning is the greatest quarterback of all time!
Craig Nielsen first joined Pro Sports MVP Entertainment & Promotions in 2011 as an intern, and later moved into the firm’s Account Executive position in 2012 during which he managed operations at the firm. Craig has since scaled up the career ladder to serve as Event Manager for Pro Sports events. Craig attended the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs pursuing a B.S. in Corporate Finance, and has been working in the sports industry since age 15, working 8-years in Clubhouse Operations with the Colorado Springs Sky Sox. He is an avid sports fan, particularly of the professional teams of Colorado.
Senior Events Director
Dr. Mahoney is well-established in both the business world as well as academia for his work in sports marketing. Dr. Mahoney is the Senior Events Director and a Consultant for Pro Sports MVP Entertainment & Promotions. He has served in key roles of providing program conception, budgeting, marketing, promotions, and event direction since the company’s inception in October of 1998.
At Temple University, Dr. Mahoney earned a masters degree in Sports Management/Leisure Studies then went on to receive his doctorate degree from Temple in Sport and Recreation Administration. He has published research including his dissertation on the topic of former major league baseball players’ alcohol consumption and drug use. Dr. Mahoney’s curriculum vitae includes instruction at both graduate and undergraduate level courses in the division of Business and Information Management at Neumann College. Additionally, he is a frequently requested guest speaker and he continues to present his research at numerous international conferences. He now leads the Sports &Entertainment Facility Management program at California State University, Fresno.
Outside of the classroom he has garnered a tremendous amount of experience in a broad range of duties, working with professional athletes &teams, intercollegiate athletes, athletic administration, and the music entertainment industry.
Director of International Events
As Pro Sports MVP Entertainment & Promotions Director of International Events, Jody oversees Pro Sports MVP Entertainment & Promotions activities conducted abroad. He is responsible for the supervision of new business development and account maintenance of international clients. Jody is also an international event manager, directing overseas programs and tours.
Jody was born and raised in Solvay, New York and currently splits residency between Solvay and Dunedin, Florida. Involved in the sports marketing and promotions industry his entire life, he got his start with the Syracuse Chiefs Baseball Club at age 14 as Clubhouse Manager and later became the Minor League Equipment Co-coordinator for the Toronto Blue Jays. Jody went on to professional baseball working with the New York Mets as an Equipment Manager, and was subsequently named Director of Clubhouse Operations for the Charlotte Knights. After a stint with a Senior League ball club, Jody became involved with the Major League Players Alumni Association. (and I.S.M., International Sports Marketing) where he his responsibilities included event management and the implementation and direction of numerous promotions. Jody gained international experience while working with a network marketing company, living temporarily in Australia and England during the company’s expansion.
Latin American Operations
Leo Astacio became a part of the Pro Sports MVP Entertainment & Promotions team in the spring of 2006 after serving as a consultant since 1999. Born and raised in the Bronx, NY, Leo graduated from LaRoche College in Pittsburgh, PA with a degree in Communications and was a four year letter winner in baseball.
During college, Leo worked with International Sports Marketing in Pittsburgh, PA alongside Pro Sports MVP Entertainment & Promotions current President, David Chavez, and Director, Brian Lee. He then went on to work with the Yankees from 1998-2004 and held positions including Assistant Video Coordinator and Interpreter. Leo translated for stars such as Orlando “El Duke” Hernandez, Alfonso Soriano, and Jose Contreras, among others. He took part in 4 World Series, 2 of which were won by the Yankees in 1998 and 2000. He was then contracted by the MLB in 2006 as the Director of Travel for Team Panama in the World Baseball Classic.
Leo serves as a consultant to David Chavez. Leo is responsible for consulting on a day-day and week-week affairs; specifically relating to the representation of NCAA College Basketball Coaches. In addition he serves as an interpreter to Pro Sports MVP Entertainment & Promotions Hispanic clients, negotiating endorsements and overseeing appearances/press events. Leo assists in new business development in creating and expanding new relationships with corporations and organizations. On the personal side, Leo and his wife Lori have three beautiful children, Lexus, Livia and Leo Jr.
Nida Bhimani joined Pro Sports MVP Entertainment & Promotions as an intern in 2013 and has continued to serve as a consultant and account specialist. Nida has assisted in a number of projects and upcoming events within the firm; she has played a key role in the development of an international tour which features over two dozen shows across the US and in Asia. She has also headed up various presentations outlining Pro Sports MVP Entertainment & Promotions incentive programs and packages.
Nida has been involved in community service from a young age and previously been a coordinator within the Boys & Girls Club of America and Habitat for Humanity. She has worked within many camp and peer leading settings as a counselor and mentor as well as conducted various leadership workshops within the University of Missouri-Columbia.
Nida has also worked in corporate environments with extensive internship experience through companies such as Sony Electronics and Walt Disney World. She has very recently been selected to cover the China Open in Beijing as a representative of the Missouri School of Journalism. As a current senior, Nida is on course to graduate in May 2014 with a B.J. in Journalism with an emphasis in Strategic Communication and a minor in Business.
Mario Kirksey, Jr. joined the Pro Sports MVP staff as an intern in 2012 and has continued to serve as an Event Manager on many of Pro Sports MVP’s key programs. Mario is originally from Mississippi, but completed his undergraduate studies at The University of Arizona receiving a bachelor’s in Public Administration and Policy with a minor in Sports Management in 2013. In 2015, he completed his master’s degree from Arizona State University in Sports Law & Business. Having worked in the entertainment industry for more than 10 years, he brings a strong music background, which aids in identifying top talent for marketing events. He also oversees onsite operations and logistics for events, ranging from travel to client requests.
Throughout his 25-year integrated marketing career, John McCally was formerly the General Manager of the Janesville (WI) Jets Junior A NAHL hockey organization, owner and President of McCally Integrated Marketing Solutions, Vice President of Community Commitment for Galyan’s Sports & Outdoor, Marketing Director at PromoPoint Grocery Marketing, and Director at Events Group Corporation.
John has recently joined Pro Sports MVP Entertainment & Promotions as a Consultant utilizing his expertise in integrated marketing, events, strategic partnerships and sponsorship. He is also responsible for expanding upon Pro Sports MVP Entertainment & Promotions long-term success of goodwill military tours with the United States Armed Forces, focusing on Navy tie-ins as well as promotional events and programs with U.S. VA hospitals and embassies throughout the world. Additionally, John will also provide expertise on consumer package goods, retail promotions and licensing ventures.
Business Development Manager
Carmen Clem has been in the sports-marketing arena since 2002. She has worked for large entities including AT&T, MasterCard, and the PGA Tour and has extensive experience in corporate sales, managing national sponsorships, developing business plans and contract negotiations.
Originally from San Marcos, Texas, Carmen attended SWT State University and majored in Marketing. She left her home state of Texas and moved to Colorado Springs in the summer of 2007 and has been enjoying her position with Pro Sports MVP Entertainment & Promotions ever since. Carmen is an asset in escorting goodwill military tours overseas and managing events and programs with many athletes and clients throughout the United States. Carmen is passionate about traveling and meeting new people as well as spending time with her friends and family.
Matt Olson joined Pro Sports MVP Entertainment & Promotions in 2004 as a summer intern. He has since moved into the role of Event Manager after graduating from the University of Oregon with a Business Degree and emphasis in Sports Marketing. He is responsible for overseeing all on-site elements during appearances and events throughout the country such as logistics, client requests, and celebrity support. Matt enjoys his role with Pro Sports MVP Entertainment & Promotions, as it allows him to experience all facets of sports marketing.
Matt is a native of Minnesota and is a passionate fan of the Vikings, Twins, Timberwolves, and the Wild. During his leisure time, he can be found on the golf course, fishing, running, playing recreational hockey or traveling.
Rick Pollack has been with Pro Sports MVP Entertainment & Promotions since its inception and has been involved in the business side of athletics for over twenty years. Rick brings varied experience acquired from his 18+ years in professional baseball where he is currently with the Albuquerque Isotopes and previously worked with the Detroit Tigers (’89-’91) and the Minnesota Twins (94-97). At present he works as a Senior Consultant for Pro Sports MVP Entertainment & Promotions and serves as a key advisor to President, David Chavez. Rick assists in the management of special events, both domestic and international and has been specifically active in international event operations visiting more than 15 countries. Pollack and his wife Cindy have two children Kaci and Brett.
John Puscian joined Pro Sports MVP in 2012 as an Event Manager. He is responsible for overseeing all on-site elements during appearances and events throughout the country such as logistics, client requests, and celebrity needs. John has been involved in the marketing promotion of youth sports for over 10-years developing and providing leagues, camps, clinics, tournaments, and fundraising programs for school age children.
John is an avid sports fan that enjoys golf, traveling and coaching. John and his wife, Kim, have four children: Ashley, Brooke, Jon and Celine.
